Carnegie Mellon¹s School of Drama Announces Visit By Acclaimed Artist and Humanitarian John Kani
Carnegie Mellon University¹s School of Drama will host renowned actor, artistic director, playwright and humanitarian John Kani from Monday, Jan.
15, through Friday, Jan. 19.
Kani will deliver the lecture ³Embracing Reconciliation: The Meaning of ŒUbuntu¹ in the New South Africa,² at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16 in the Philip Chosky Theater. After a lifetime of personally experiencing the political violence of apartheid, Kani will candidly share his struggle to embrace South Africa¹s new policy of truth and reconciliation. While confessing his lingering outrage over the country¹s legacy of white supremacy, Kani will explain how he came to embrace Desmond Tutu¹s call for ³ubuntu,² which means having self-respect through respect for others.

Esteemed Guitarist Manuel Barrueco To Perform With Carnegie Mellon¹s Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Jan. 18
The unbridled passion of U.S. and Latin American music will come together in a concert pairing Cuban-American guitarist Manuel Barrueco with the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Carnegie Mellon University School of Music¹s string quartet in residence. They will perform at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18 at the Alumni Concert Hall in the College of Fine Arts building on the Carnegie Mellon campus. This event is free and open to the public.

Carnegie Mellon¹s Jill Watson Lecture Series Features Renowned Architects David Adjaye and Elizabeth Diller, Jan. 1920
The Jill Watson Distinguished Lecture Series at Carnegie Mellon University will present talks by internationally acclaimed architect David Adjaye on Friday, Jan. 19; and architect, artist and theorist Elizabeth Diller on Saturday, Jan. 20. Both lectures are free and open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Lecture Hall, 4400 Forbes Avenue.
Adjaye¹s lecture takes place in conjunction with his exhibition ³Gritty
Brits: New London Architecture,² which runs from Jan. 20 through June 3 at the Heinz Architectural Center at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
A reception will immediately follow each lecture. After the Adjaye lecture, the Carnegie Museum of Art will host a reception at the Heinz Architectural Center. Following the Diller lecture, the College of Fine Arts will host a reception in the Carnegie Museum of Art¹s Hall of Architecture. Both receptions are free and open to the public.
