With the computer systems used in theatre becoming increasingly advanced and increasingly interconnected I believe that it will become increasingly important for theatrical technicians to be aware of cyber security. While this article does not mention the specific computer systems affected in the attack I'd imagine that the theater's website and ticketing solution were the primary areas of concern. In the modern day a majority of theaters handle ticketing online due to online ticketing's ease compared to more traditional solutions but in doing so it becomes the theatre company's responsibility at least in part to ensure the security of its online presence. While most theatres work with a vendor to provide payment processing meaning that attackers would not be able to access customer data it would still be concerning if the website was affected. While this is the first time that I have heard of performances being cancelled due to cyber attacks I believe that cyber security best practices will soon be essential knowledge for technicians.
