Moment Factory designs an interactive botanical world

AV Magazine: An immersive experience that invites visitors to explore a vibrant botanical world that responds to their every movement has opened at the Futuroscope theme park in France. Entertainment studio Moment Factory was brought in to turn the park’s 360 into an attraction that shifts guests from observation to active, free-flow engagement.

This seems really cool, and I need to visit. This interactive botanical environment seems really new level and innovative in the technology they had available. This is also really fascinating to me because of the use of projection mapping. Honestly, it seems like a lot of projection work due to the colors and make up of the rooms from the photos. And because of this, I am really impressed because projections and media can be pretty confusing to me at times, so figuring out how to map this across a room seems pretty cool. I also really like how the design initially tells a story about the environment. The idea of having a botanist come together with these designers to create a sanctuary and creative space for their work to shine through is something really special, and I find it really interesting as someone who is interested in plants and botany. This seems like a really cool immersive space that provides much to discover.

All the pictures look so cool and vibrant. Seeing more immersive arts popping up is super exciting. I always love to visit exhibitions and theme parks, forcing myself into an artistic space with sensations being stimulated or triggered by what I see and feel. Immersive arts explore the interaction between the artists and the audience more directly. Instead of processing only visual information and trying to relate to what we see in a static artwork, immersive art makes other sensory experiences possible, and artworks can respond to the audience instantaneously. I’ve noticed that The La Serre des Mondes attraction incorporates light, media, and sound into its space, which is fairly common for nowadays immersive art spaces to have. I wanted to see more innovative designs on how interaction can happen in new ways, other than visitors stepping on the floor that triggers a visual response to that. I am excited to see more immersive arts spaces and installations.

The pictures of this exhibit look absolutely gorgeous. I am always impressed by the artistry that goes into exhibitions like this one. I also appreciate that there is a story that goes along with all the projections. I am interested in how exactly they tell the story and if they do it with live actors or with pre-recorded videos that are included in the projections. I like how they combined physical scenery with the projected scenery. It seems like there is a good balance between the physical and the virtual. I do not always love audience participation in theater, that is just my personal preference, but I think it works well for this story and how they have decided to tell it. I also think this would be a really interesting concept for an escape room. An escape room with a space that reacts in real time to what you are doing and could create a unique experience for the players.

I appreciate these exhibits they're really cool in their own regard in terms of technology and such, but it really seems like people are attempting to subsistute this sort of thing for going outside, and experiencing the world. Theres something to be said that in order for people to enjoy a botanical experience they have to have it virtualized and be rendered instead of doing it in real life, and I don't necessarily attribute this to the people themselves visiting. I think that our lives have just gotten so busy that a lot of the wants and human desires to explore the world just aren't possible. I think instead of trying to isolate people even more, we should be encouraging people to leave there own home or city and go explore other places and communities. Not only to help them develop better mindsets because there is so much science behind how experiencing something physically is much better virtually. But also to get them to experience other places and perspectives for themselves.

  5. This “immersive” experience is cool, but I feel like I've seen it in kids museums for the past 10 years… Or maybe even 15. Projection mapping is cool and everything but it's still images onto a flat surface. The narrative element of the experience is interesting, but I wish there were more 3D physical elements for the projections to really make some magic with. If this could merge with the environment created in an escape room I think that would be really cool. Something more like the Omega Mart and meow wolf experiences. This also raises my favorite debate of what is immersive. To me, this is not immersive. Immersive, to me, is losing one’s self in a world, while projections might make a white wall look pretty you still know there’s a wall there. I want to look more into what this Futuroscope theme park in France entails. I’m intrigued.

I really enjoy immersive art, and I think combining it with storytelling and Botanicals is such a fun idea. I really enjoy flowers and nature, such as Phipps Botanical Garden, and I want to visit this interactive world that was created here at the Moment Factory. These photos are so bright and fun, with a lot of neon colors, which tell such an interesting color story. It's kind of sad that this is in France because I would really like to go to this Museum. It sort of reminds me of the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, and this really draws my eye. I also think that flowers bloom based on sensors, which makes you part of the art and helps create the storytelling of this world. I truly think that's so cool and beautiful, and immersive art should continue to flourish because it's just so cool. This museum is so cool, and I hope to get to visit it in the future.

I think this kind of experience is really cool, even if I’m a little mixed on some parts of it. I like the idea of making the audience part of the environment instead of just having them watch something, and the botanical theme with the interactive elements sounds genuinely fun. The combination of physical pieces with projections and sound seems like it would make the space feel more immersive and less flat. At the same time, techniques like projection mapping are becoming more common, so it does make me question what really pushes something to feel fully immersive. But I do think the storytelling element and the focus on collective interaction, like the final drumming moment, adds something more meaningful to the experience. Overall, it seems like a really engaging and thoughtfully designed space, even if it still leaves me thinking about what immersion can be.

The pictures from the experience look so cool. I love the vibrant colors all over the place, it makes this botanical garden feel like it’s from a different planet. While I do think this is cool, it doesn’t seem to include a lot of real grown plants. The projections look as if they’re all 2D and the only thing with shape is the set or anything on the building. I’m sure there is more dimension than just a few set pieces but it would be nice to see it. Hopefully an experience like this can be offered in more places so hopefully myself and others can see it one day. I think the idea behind the interactive botanical world is really cool, but I hope this doesn’t discourage or distract people from enjoying the real nature around them. The visuals from this experience are great but there are a lot of things from our world we can admire and appreciate at real botanical gardens.

  9. I love an immersive space i cannot even lie, this looks sick as hell. It’s kind of reminding me of meow wolf, with all the vibrant colors and surreal world that they create. I literally love meow wolf so much. The idea of using a botanical garden as the base point for an immersive space like this is so cool to me, and I absolutely love it. I also love going to botanical gardens, I often will make a trip over to phipps, just to see all the cool plants, so something like this, which feels like phipps and meow wolf had a baby just seems like a great time. I also really appreciate that it seems like they have made this super interactive. You aren;t just experiencing a super cool space, youre interacting with and affecting how the space is, which i think is so much more impactful and engaging.

I find this kind of exhibit really quite interesting since I prefer design in more physical mediums, and we live in a world where materialism is highly valued- even in design. This is an interesting shift in audience demand, where I have seen previous success in interactive experiences where there is an abundance of things. Materialism and commodification runs deep in our industry, which is so interesting to see this shift to people enjoying this non-physical experience. I remember seeing the Van Gogh immersive exhibit, and feeling disappointed… (sorry…) but primarily because it was all digital. So much of my own experience in theater has trained me to value things more highly when the physical thing is more interesting, and this challenges that impulse, especially since the digital media is interactive. This kind of exhibit is exploring how perhaps a physical environment is not a mandatory part of an environment.
