No Film School: There is an old biblical saying, "You reap what you sow," which essentially means you get out of the world what you put in. So excuse me while I pile onto an AI filmmaker, who posted on Twitter that their prompts were being stolen by the outside world.
I will be so real, I think this article is really stupid. like I agree with what they said, but the entire thing kind of just felt condescending and weird. In terms of content I think the original poster that the article was touching on was very off base in their ideas that artificially generated images can be your own. The entire thing is just really ironic because by actively using artificially generated images, you are stealing from actual artists and creatives whose data was scraped off the internet without their consent while claiming that you have rights over the content that they helped you produce. Had touched a bit more on the copyright laws and things that are happening with that because the title is kind of misleading. It's not talking about actual copyright, just what is considered intellectual property. Those are two very different things and there is a lot to say about that when it comes to AI so I wish there was a bit more.
ReplyDeleteWomp womp. I agree with the author of this article that there’s no sympathy for this dude. Using AI to create something and then having the audacity to be in the mindset that the junk it pumped out was “yours” is crazy to me. As the article points out, AI is an amalgamation of an endless number of artists and designers graphics who the machine is pulling from to frankenstein together in a soulless inhuman product. Also, to post this on social media is another level of delusion and lost in the internet sauce because did this guy think the world would rally behind him for his prompted picture to be protected as individual intellectual property? I hope we never reach the era where prompts into AI machines are copyrightable or monetizable. I hope this AI wave is a big trend and then eventually we let it go and it does not become as huge as companies and mainstream news feed wants us to believe.
ReplyDeleteShout out to the author for being very right and being very funny about it, too. To add onto the article, really, it's absurd how many morons exist on this planet. Like, how idiotic can you be? It’s absolutely common knowledge that AI steals other people’s work to do what it does. You plagiarized and stole someone else's work in order to “accomplish” (let’s be real, they didn’t accomplish anything since they used AI) that day to night transition. What made you think that you were invincible to AI’s theft? Main Character Syndrome? No, everyone is fair game when it comes to AI; it doesn’t care. Additionally, Karma really does like to do its thing, and I’m glad it came back around to bite this person. I doubt they’ll learn, considering their idiotic post on twitter and just the overall fact that they seem like one of the dullest tools in the shed, but maybe, just maybe, if they turn on that microscopic, fried pebble of a brain cell in their head for a second, they’ll realize that it doesn’t feel so nice to be stolen from and that that’s what many others feel when they use AI. I doubt it, though; this person really does seem like they can’t process any basic information.
