Nicki Hunter to Become Artistic Director of Manhattan Theatre Club

Playbill: Nicki Hunter has been appointed the new artistic director of Manhattan Theatre Club, a producer of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. She succeeds Lynne Meadow, who has served as MTC’s artistic director for over five decades. Meadow will assume a new role as artistic advisor when Hunter steps into the artistic director position on December 1.

This article was particularly interesting to me and caught my attention because I just did a project on the Manhattan Theatre Club. I remember seeing that Lynne Meadow was intending on stepping down, but at the time of my research, nobody had been decided upon yet, so it her stepping down was still pending. It is fun and cool for me to see that information updated now and see how the situation is progressing, considering that I did so much research on it. It is definitely the end of an era, though, as Lynne Meadow has been with the Manhattan Theatre Club since the very beginning. Seeing as Nicki Hunter seems to have been with the company for a good amount of time, I’m sure she understands the work very well and will do amazing things as the new artistic director. I wish her all the best in the future, and I can’t wait to see what the MTC does next under her leadership!

I think it’s really cool that Nicki Hunter is becoming the new artistic director at MTC. She’s been with the company for a long time so it makes sense she’s the one taking over. It’s kind of crazy how long Lynne Meadow was in charge, over 50 years, so this is a huge change. I’m excited to see what new ideas Nicki brings in and if she starts focusing on different voices or styles of shows. I do hope she keeps some of what made MTC special though, like how they support new playwrights and tell really meaningful stories. It’s always tricky to keep theater exciting while still holding onto the heart of what it’s been. I feel like this could be a really fresh start but also a chance to build on everything that’s already been done. I’m definitely curious to see what shows come next under her leadership.
