Theaters Have Re-Invested $1.5 Billion to Improve Moviegoing

variety.com: That expanded menu. That collectible popcorn bucket. The reclining seats. Those amenities plus large screen format offerings are all part of how the North American exhibition industry has re-invested more than $1.5 billion in their theaters in the past year.

I believe this is particularly crucial given the current state of the movie industry. Ever since covid, more and more people tend to prefer the comfort of watching a movie at home rather than having to go out to a theater. Because of that, the movie theater industry has been slowly declining, and the theaters are doing whatever they can to make rent. This has also led to ticket and concession prices increasing, which is also contributing to people wanting to avoid the movies. I personally like the movie-going experience, but again, because of the increasing prices, I have to pick and choose what to watch. I also think an issue for these theaters is the increased popularity of streaming services and the amount of movies and shows you have access to for the price of a single movie ticket. I think that it is great that the theaters are trying to improve the movie-going experience by creating specialty popcorn buckets or a loyalty program. Still, I don't know if it will actually increase the movie-goers again because of the cost. I think the overall solution is to lower the cost of tickets and concessions, and it will allow for an increase in viewers.
