The Danger Of Refurbishing Your Power Tool Batteries
www.slashgear.com: It's no secret that power tools have really come a long way. Not too long ago, almost every woodworking power tool (from grinders and routers to saws and planers) had to be plugged into the wall, limiting how and where you worked. Nowadays, almost every major power tool brand is shifting to run its tools through rechargeable batteries instead of plug-in cords. However, while this rechargeable system brings a lot of convenience, such as the freedom to work anywhere, it also comes with one big catch: lithium-ion batteries gradually diminish over time.

ReplyDeleteI did not know replacing a batter yourself was an option that people often took. The first power tool I ever owned was in my freshman year of college so I guess I have not lived enough to see my own battery die in front of me. I would not consider replacing it with a lithium ion battery myself because 1) I’d be afraid of doing it wrong and touching a chemical and dying 2) I feel like a lot of explosion stories on planes or in homes are due to lithium ion battery related incidents. Nearly every warning in the article on dangers of changing the battery yourself ended with a fire and explosion. I think using parts or services from the tool’s original company is the best bet. Third-party anything to me is automatically suspicious as the article points out as well because John from craigslist has no regulations in his battery-repair basement.
