Tackling A New Workshop Build With AutoCAD Web: Part 2
AutoCAD Blog | Autodesk: AutoCAD Web is a fantastic collaboration tool when used on an AutoCAD project. The project can be large or small—it really doesn’t matter. The time-saving workflows that AutoCAD Web provides can facilitate seamless collaboration between office and site, making your DWG files completely mobile.

AutoCAD Web sounds like it could be really useful but not for my or our workflow. Most of our work occurs within a couple minutes walk to our office whether we are in our shop or in our production office. Also my laptop is powerful enough to run almost all AutoCAD commands and some of the bigger files. So in our environment of needing AutoCAD to be conveniently available in a semi-remote location is not a requirement or really a want that we would like. Now I could see where if your main driver for your drafting is a desktop (something that I really wish I could do more) and you had a weaker laptop that could not handle a full drawing application and you didn’t have a convenient location to power through a charging cable a lighter, less power hungry web app would be way easier. This is just not something that we need but could be cool to look into to see if there’s any way to help in our process.
ReplyDeleteThis new AutoCAD tool seems extremely helpful, especially since it keeps everything in one place. It eliminates the common issue of someone forgetting to upload their drawing file to the drive or working from an outdated version. I can imagine this being especially useful in our industry when last-minute onsite changes are required. Instead of relying on a rough hand-drawn sketch, the Project Manager on site could quickly pull up the previous version, make edits, and send the updated file directly to the shop for implementation. The ability to streamline cross-communication and workflow is a huge advantage, particularly for companies working on projects far from their main office. I’m excited to see how this tool performs and whether it could fit into our current workflow. That said, I’m not sure our projects operate on a scale that would fully leverage its strengths. However, for massive installations with longer timelines and complex details that need to be addressed onsite, I can see this tool completely transforming the way those challenges are handled.
