I found this article pretty interesting. I mostly hear talk of Dante as the main AoIP protocol in live sound. I was surprised that the article focused on Milan. Its frustrating that we don't really have a standard of audio transmission. AES67, Dante, Milan, AVB, etc, all have their pros and cons. But having so many causes manufacturers to have to make their products compatible with it all.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like the main draw of Meyer Sound’s new GEN-1 line is how it embeds processing “at the loudspeaker, reducing cabling and rack requirements while minimizing points of failure.” This sounds great, especially for large systems that need a lot of processing done at an external rack. But, I thought a lot of processing was done in digital mixers. From my understanding, outboard processing done in a rack is generally more precise than its counterparts on the mixer. If this is true, then I wonder how “precise” this processing is if its confined to a loudspeaker.
I personally love Meyer Sound, and have taken a tour (their company is in my hometown.) I’m excited to see this innovative line expand!
