DC super heroes coming to Orlando at Gaylord Palms
attractionsmagazine.com: DC Summer, a celebration of DC Comics, is coming to Gaylord hotels — including Gaylord Palms, bringing the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman to Orlando.
This looks like a great exhibition. I've never been thrilled about the idea of living in Florida, but over this year I've come to appreciate being from Orlando. It's really convenient to be in a place where so many things are always happening. Having multiple theme parks so close to home is pretty cool, plus the convention centers, and of course Gaylord Palms. My favorite thing about Gaylord Palms is the ICE! exhibit they do at Christmas time. They have a different theme each year, and this past year was Elf. They've also done Polar Express, Charlie Brown and Shrek, among many other themes. Each year they also have a nativity, and everything is made of ice. It's such a cool (cold) thing to go and see. They keep the room at 9°F and give you giant blue jackets to wear. It's funny because you have to dress for the warmth and break out your gloves and hats to go see it, meanwhile it's probably 60° outside if you're lucky. Florida is hot. ICE! is cold. It's the only glimpse we get of winter.
I am a big fan of DC comics, and this whole extravaganza looks pretty fun. The lantern sculptures look very cool, and I am surprised that this is the first big thing I am hearing about this sort of art. It feels like something Disney would have capitalized on, bringing us Disney princesses on lanterns or something, but I’m glad that DC comics is getting the treatment. I really hope the new superman movie is good, because DC has tried so many times to make a good superhero movie and of the dozens they have made maybe two of them were goodish, but hopefully james gun has got this thing figured out, and signs look good if there is a while colab with this hotel to promote the movie. I might just have to hit up the hotel near Denver this summer and eat lunch with Batman, Wonder Woman, and superman.
The biggest thing that caught my eye with this was the concept art, the storyboarding shown was done really well and I think with the images of the realized pieces that are there it's pretty close to what the initial designs looked like. I will say I didn't know that the Gaylord as a company had multiple locations. I've had the opportunity to visit the Gaylord in Texas during their winter festival activities and it was really cool. I didn't know they had exhibits like this where it wasn't necessarily seasonally themed but more pop culture themed. I also really like how they are making all of the characters in superheroes into lanterns. I think it's a really cool way to make the exhibit still look really cool at night without external lighting sources. I honestly really like the grid-like texture that the lanterns have. It adds more depth to the elements in a manner I personally really like.
