www.hollywoodreporter.com: The Creative Coalition’s inaugural National Arts Advocacy Summit dubbed the “Davos of the Arts in the Desert,” brought 50 thought leaders from the arts and business to Las Vegas’ Summerlin community on Feb. 12 and 13 for a two-day invite-only gathering.
I’m glad this summit is a thing, what with the mess that has happened with the National Endowment for the Arts as well as at the Kennedy Center. As per the specifics of the summit, I’m not sure I fully understand. Some names that were listed in the article made me question how issues were exactly approached. I had never previously heard of The Creative Coalition - but of course the Reagan administration prompted it. It makes me nervous that it was formed after the NEA was attacked, similarly to how it’s being attacked now. But it prompted the TCC to act, which is good. I hope the hearing in April goes well, the arts need it. I found the last paragraph to be significant in the context of all this chaos. In 2022, the arts sector reached an all time high in value added to the United States’ economy: 1.1 trillion dollars and that’s not even counting the trade surplus.
