18 NYC Public High School Students Participated in the Broadway League's Shadowing Program
Playbill: Eighteen students from various New York City public high schools recently participated in The Broadway League’s 12th annual High School Broadway Shadowing Program, which was held March 5–14.
I think I would have really liked to do something like this when I was in high school because I had no idea what I was getting myself into or how the theater production world works. I really wish opportunities like this were provided where and when I was in high school. I also think it is really amazing that a public high school's art program helped organize this. I think it is incredibly valuable that this is provided through a school program and I think it will really open the doors for kids to explore these types of jobs and productions. Learning face-to-face I think is really important and I think that shadowing or something in the form of an apprenticeship is really valuable to young people trying to figure out what they want to do. I appreciated this article and I am really happy that programs like this exist for high school kids to participate in although I do wonder how they select who gets to shadow and who doesn't.
