Dance Beat: Attack Theatre’s New Home
onStage Pittsburgh: Located at the corner of Butler and 42nd Street, just across from New Amsterdam restaurant, the new location was the result of years of searching, with actual tours of 150 possible locations.
So it had to be pretty special.
Attack Theatre is a dance company that works very much with the community, functioning very much as a community space. Their pedagogy is based on a long history of connecting artists, dancers, administrators, and people who love the arts around the appreciation of dance and movement. For them to set up a permanent location after carefully considering over 150 locations, there is so much possibility with this new space, which has two floors of space within this historic building in Lawrenceville. This article walks us through various rooms in Attack’s new space, as well as listing various events Attack is involved in, showing their dedication to engaging the Pittsburgh community. Even as someone who is not a dancer and does not have a very in-depth understanding of dance, it is clear that with a new, innovative location like this, Attack Theatre has the potential to go above and beyond what they’ve done, continuing to engage with the community, but perhaps in a more evolved capacity.
