Tested: We've now reviewed both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but after spending more time with both virtual reality headsets, we're able to do more direct comparisons between them.
Before going to Kevan and Almeda's thesis performance I had no idea about an oculus rift, what it did, what it was, and why it was so cool. After the attending the theatrical performance I now understand that it gives you the ability to feel like you are in a three-dimensional world, different from your own. I thought that the thesis concept was interesting because it attempted to introduce the oculus into a theatrical setting, which I feel is an oxymoron. The oculus is a very singular thing. You live in that world alone, with whatever media is being played for you. Theatre is about community, and usually involves multiple people. From the first presentation I was confused as to why the oculus rift was helpful in storytelling. I am eager to read more about it, and follow Almeda and Kevan's thesis as they workshop the piece more to try and incorporate a larger audience into the experience. I think that as the production and budget grows so will the amount of oculus' and therefore more people will be able to enjoy the magic.
