AMERICAN THEATRE: The question naturally arises, with all that’s wrong in the world, and the array of not-for-profits organized against each challenge: Why give money and time to a tiny theatre in lower Manhattan—which is to say, to an increasingly esoteric enterprise in an esoteric neighborhood?
