Dance Council's next season to present diverse styles
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Pittsburgh Dance Council has a question: What is dance? The answer may seem obvious, but the possibilities for how to reply are plentiful and not always so simple. This article was especially interesting because that is not a question that you commonly hear, "what is dance". I love it when choreographers intermix their classical culture with a modern dance style. It makes it that much more interesting and captivating to a larger audience. The work that Akram Khan is doing, especially with mixing Indian culture into a modern forum is becoming more and more common. It is exciting to know that this is happening in dance, it already happened in a whole variety of movies, and is also appearing to become the mixture in a lot of music. Combining the cultures and sharing your origin has become easier through various global connections, the internet being one of them. I hope that the work done by this choreographer becomes known to the rest of the world. Maybe it will inspire them in some way.
