SignOnSanDiego.com: "One of this year’s Playwrights Project festival works — a totally charming play by a teen-ager who seems to know more about adulthood than lots of adults do — is titled “Funny Little Thing.”"
I think adults, especially those associated in theater, under estimate, young writers, like these mentioned, abilities to tell "adult" stories. Kids are smart enough to know and realize the world around them, and pick up on things adults rarely see and realize. To see kids doing just that and using theater as their medium is really impressive. They show a talent and thought that goes beyond those of their "adult" experts, and they are only 18 or younger. Festivals like this one are important. They allow opportunity, development and experience to those who would rarely receive it.
This is yet another reason I wish I was at least a year younger. Giving young playwrights the chance to publish their own work is extremely important for injecting new blood into the theater community, especially in recession which might tempt theaters to stick with established plays guaranteed to pack a house.
