Reuters: "A Singapore theater company is staging 'Victor/Victoria' for the first time in Asia, more than a decade after it left Broadway and with jazz singer Laura Fygi in the role that actress Julie Andrews made famous."
What is blowing my mind is that the east is finally allowing more artistic expression and freedom of expression. Although these shows haven't been created in Asia, it's a giant step forward that they are allowing the presence of art. I love the idea that they are including a cast from Asia. These countries are really trying to gain momentum in the world's scene, not just through the Olympics, economic standings, but now through talent.
What I want to ask is why this is changing now? Is performance art becoming a standpoint for how countries are seen in the world's standing?
