Metropolitan Museum Cuts Staff, Closes Shops as Visitors Drop
Bloomberg.com: "New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art said it’s cutting 10 percent of its staff, about 250 jobs, as its endowment and gift-shop revenue shrink."

I don't necessarily think this is an awful occurence. There are many unnecessary items in museum gift shops that sometimes detract from the museum experience. I do worry that this budget cutting might eventually go beyond gift shops and start to affect museum programs and exhibitions. As of now though, I am ok with cutting back on the gift stores.
I sort of kills me to keep reading about the bad things that keep happening b/c of the economy. Although i do agree with Megan in terms of the gift shop. I never buy anything in them -- or, rarely, at least.
