Yahoo! News: "Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre will reopen after restoration in November 2009, a year behind schedule, after emergency work to save it from collapse, officials said on Thursday."
I'm really glad to hear about this project. Renovations of old spaces can be incredibly expensive, as the article points out, but I think this sort of project is culturally important. It would be heartbreaking to lose something architecturally and ideologically representative of Russia's cultural development under Catherin II, and as a world center for performing arts. I think the space where art is created can be as important as the work, and keeping this space means continuining and honoring a tradition.
