Productivity Tip: How Not to Overspend Your Time On a Task

lifehack.org: "Have you ever felt that you spend way too much time on something? You started reading a book, but eventually realized that the time you spend on it far exceeds the value you get. Or maybe you worked on a project, but after completing it you realized that the project could actually be finished much sooner."

I never thought this would be a problem in most aspects. But I have many times in the past worked on a project way too long then was needed to get the final product that I wanted. I think out of all tips that were listed the hardest to stick with is the point of stopping when you get the product you expected. In the line of work we do everything can always be made better so when that point comes one questions whether or not if they should put more into. Which is good is some cases but most of the time one just has to go back to what they had before. It is all just a balancing act between working hard toward something and stopping when it is done and leaving it.

This idea would be helpful except for how competitive the world around us is. If we set a deadline or certain barrier, once we reach it we begin to ask, "how can we top it?" This is not neccessarily a bad thing. How can it be bad to strive to be the best? It is the time issue that is a major problem.
