Guardian Unlimited Arts: "But it now looks like the wait for a fresh Havel work will be further prolonged following his decision to pull his latest play from Prague's National Theatre after its refusal to allow his wife to play the lead role."
What an almost ironic occurence: the age-old censorship problem flipped so that the king must instead struggle against his subjects for artistic freedom. Granted this involves censorship for reasons completely unrelated to content, however it's still a matter of an artist defending his vision to the public. And I agree with Havel that scandal and negative publicity, even if it does bring in audience members, are never the reasons an artist wants his work to be popular.
