Why Hollywood Productions Are Moving to Hungary

www.indiewire.com: In one of the most ambitious scenes of Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” the musical score comes to life with a grandeur that only a large orchestra can provide. What few viewers know is that this soundtrack was not recorded in Los Angeles or London, but in Budapest.

  1. This was a really interesting article to read - while I hadn’t necessarily noticed a particular trend of Hollywood production moving to Hungary, over the past couple of years, I can definitely think of several different TV shows and movies where I recall seeing behind-the-scenes footage from filming in Budapest. In every one of these cases, I recall thinking “hm, that’s interesting that they’re filming in Budapest. I wouldn’t have guessed that,” but I never started to link together an unusually high number of things being filmed in Hungary. It makes a lot of sense to me that the film industry is pushing itself out of LA. To put it simply, the general LA and Hollywood industry just isn’t built to be sustainable, and as prices rise, LA just isn’t special enough to keep drawing the film industry in if it isn’t providing the industry with what it needs. I’m curious to see if this trend continues, or if a different location besides Hungary pops up as the hot new filming destination.
