Pittsburgh City Paper: House of Stones started with Black Pittsburgh artists contemplating what a story that came from their authentic experiences as Black men in the city would look like. As these conversations progressed, the narrative came into focus: the relationship between Black men and their fathers.
I am happy that the article starts off by stating and acknowledging the lack of black voices/faces within the film industry and specifically that of Pittsburgh. The need for more black creators within the film industry has always been a reoccurring problem that is slowly being acknowledged and shifted. Thus, I am ecstatic to see a film such as, "House of Stones" being produced and by a black production company because it shows that there are individuals who recognize the gap of black diversity within the film industry and are actively attempting to shorten it. Additionally, I was shocked to see that they also have an all-black crew because often times this aspect of diversity backstage is not acknowledged or acted upon. It is tremendously common to see this a lot on films that showcase black people on the screen but not off the screen. When this film makes its debut I hope that it is not a massive traumatic showcase of black experiences and livelihood. But, based on the small biography of the film I have hope that this film is brining something new to the stage.
