VFX Supervisor Christopher White Shares His Black History Month Essay

Variety: I’ve always been fascinated with the history of spaces, knowing there are stories encapsulated in a place. How one can enter a room and receive cues to all that has happened there. As I reflect on Black History Month, I think of the pioneering work of those that came before and the movement of history and culture through these spaces.

This essay was short and sweet and got to the point. It’s important for people of all walks of life to have representation in all sorts of industries. Seeing a piece of yourself in a certain space allows you to believe that one day, you could be a part of the creation of that space. As a Black, Mexican woman looking to work in the theatre industry, a white male-dominated field, I think it’s incredibly important to set an example for young girls of all races and nationalities. It’s important to show young girls, especially young Black girls, that they have a shot working in the theatre industry if that should be where they find their passion. I hope to reach a level in my career where I get to reach out to the younger generation similarly to Christopher White and “offer guidance through mentorship” in order to open new doors to those who want and deserve a chance to succeed in whatever their heart leads them.
