The Denver Post: "If this were a play merely about a man coming to terms with his own preconceptions about the importance of conventional good looks in a woman, well it wouldn't be a LaBute play. This is really the story about how the man's friends cannot trust, accept or deal with his choice."
I love the idea of using the theatre as a forum to talk about society's issues and speaking up about body issues is a great one. Particularly in the theatre world, image is weighed heavily and actresses are seldom unattractive. I am excited to hear that "Fat Pig" is tackling the traditional love story in a unilateral approach against society's expectations of a perfect woman. Hopefully by placing this issue up on stage, we can open a dialogue about society and the media's unrealistic body standards and how that hurts everyone.
ReplyDeleteI heard great reviews about a production of this that went up in London recently. The subject matter sounds truly intriguing, and undoubtedly increasingly important in our ever-expanding world.
