The Hardware Aisle: "The moldings on brownstone doors in my part of Brooklyn have intricate, tightly packed profiles that would have likely been milled on-site by a worker wielding a molding plane similar to the Stanley 45 shown above."
Interestingly enough, over the summer my aunt who lives near Brooklyn was having an incredibly hard time getting a door frame fixed that had been damaged recently. Companies around her said they didn't have the tools to do that and so they tried to make her replace not only that entire frame but every frame in the house in order for them to match. After lots of searching she found a company that would do it and this is the exact tool they used. It's awesome to see it be used when you're so used to watching bits rotate in a gun or someone put things through a saw.
i would have been very surprised if they had said it wouldnt work on a door frame
however, they can make bits to do some very complex cuts, but i still find myself grabbing a wood chisel from the toolbox because sometimes it's still easier
