Lady Gaga's Vegas Residency reveals an eye-popping TAIT Spectacle

www.taittowers.com: Art-Pop legend, Lady Gaga, takes fans back to her roots in spectacular fashion for her Las Vegas Residency at MGM’s Park Theater. Lady Gaga’s Vegas Residency is a two-year stint and offers two distinct experiences, “Enigma” and “Jazz & Piano,” that will make Sin City’s little monsters go Gaga! Lady Gaga’s show, Enigma, is a full theatrical production that follows a dramatic, video game-like narrative and transforms Park Theater into an animatronic world of Gaga’s overactive imagination.

And Tait does it again. I cannot say I am surprised at all by what this article has to say about Tait's latest piece of art...and that is exactly what Tait's stages are, art. Never have a seen an article talking about how a Tait built stage wasn't quite there or wasn't quite right for the show it was built for, and that's because Tait's team of designers and engineers is unparalleled. Tait's Enigma stage is just another example of Tait's ability to perfectly design and engineer an entire stage and set. With 35 active Nav Hoists, I am sure this show is a sight to see. On top of the set and staging design, the lighting accents all of these elements perfectly and I am sure the sound is more than up to par for a venue like the Park Theater. Last year, I actually had the pleasure of visiting the Park Theater while Cher was there and it was one of the nicest convert venues I had seen in a very long time. MGM Entertainment did a fantastic job renovating the space.

I live under a rock, and somehow had not heard of TAIT until they came to do their presentation last semester. I’ve always seen myself working in live theatre as a career, whether that be building or designing or a combination of those two, because I like to be a part of telling a story and the rush of a live event is something I love. However, seeing the things that TAIT puts together for live events like this makes me reconsider wanting to work in theatre. The massive amounts of technology that TAIT seamlessly fuses together in these concert setups and rigs blow me away. I think it is really interesting to see how video media design and systems design has sort of merged itself with stage automation and the work that TAIT produces. This company really does pull out all the stops to create an overall stunning and customized performance to fit their client’s needs and dreams.

I have never seen a TAIT stage before but after reading this article and the other comments posted, I can see why they were the ones that got the opportunity to work on Lady Gaga’s stage—it’s AMAZING. The art and design in Gaga’s videos/album covers has always impressed and inspired me, and the stages for Enigma and Jazz & Piano continue to do the same. TAIT was able to perfectly capture Gaga’s “enigma” and everything that encompasses her songs and “art pop” style. The geometric shapes and use of different materials, video projections, and so on all work together to create the perfect set for the star herself. TAIT did a great honor through their work for Gaga, which is good, because if her set were any less impressive than her being, her fans, or “little monsters” would NOT be happy. One of my good friends is completely obsessed with Lady Gaga, and I hope that I might be able to see this show sometime soon.

I feel like whenever anyone attends CMU Drama for design and production, the word TAIT must come up at least once. Lady Gaga’s Las Vegas residency has also been a long-awaited show and of course, TAIT was the commercial shop that made her stage and put together her automation. This past year, I recall looking through TAIT’s yearbook that showcases all of the major productions they were a part of during that past year and I was instantly blown away by their portfolio. Lady Gaga has always been a true performer and I can only imagine what her show in Las Vegas could be like. Technical direction has always been something that I have held some amount of interest in because I love the investigative aspect of finding solutions to challenges that designers bring you. I think some of the best examples of these creative solutions are offered by TAIT.
