Virtual Reality In Polish Theatre

The Theatre Times: Polish theatre artists have recently been experimenting with Virtual Reality (VR). What is it, and how does its use affect the reception of performances? VR technology is gaining popularity in recent years. It’s used not only in computer games and short films but also in the theatre. Everyone–Skype users, users of GPS navigation or computer games–function in augmented reality, which is where the computer-generated world overlaps with the real one, “extends” it.

The possibilities of VR in theatre is a very fascinating venue of further exploration. It would be interesting to see a theatrical experience that is completely done with VR, because how you can manipulate the perspective of the audience. I feel that many directors would love to have that option when they are planning the block and vision of the performance. While full VR is interesting it is the productions that play with the idea of work with live performances and VR aspects as try to flip back and forth would lead to some very fascinating problems that could also lead to dynamic solutions, mostly because theatre loves turn the handling of a problem into and art in itself. So every time I see theses articles on the news page I always need to check it out even if I don’t necessarily comment on it because I love seeing the steps that we are take to ingrate this new technology.
