Ted Pappas caps a distinguished 18 years at Public Theater with Hamlet

Theater Reviews + Features | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper: After an impressive 18 years with Pittsburgh Public Theater, artistic director and managing director Ted Pappas is moving on. And what better sendoff for a theater veteran than taking on Hamlet, one of the biggest monsters in all of theater?

I had the lucky privilege to actually “work” on this show. After applying to work or inter with the public theatre over the summer I received an email from on of the returning lighting designer. A Kirk Bookman, who was designing this production of Hamlet. While much of the pre-work was done before he even showed up I was still able to help with the focus of the show and to give an audience perspective at times. I think the best part and the most important part of this mentorship was to see first hand how he as the light designer works with the director and what that relationship should really look like. So while I did not know this was Ted Pappas’ last production her eat the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, I was so remarkable and truly informative to see how these two long time freeing and co worker of a long and had an understanding.
