Theatre Is a Part of Community!

Footlights: There is no short supply of great theatre in Los Angeles. Better than great, brilliant! Earth shaking, soul transforming, awe inspiring theatre! I’m not just talking about Hamilton. Nor is it limited to The Center Theatre Group, The Geffen, or the other regional theaters here is southern California. Los Angeles is home to somewhere around 300 intimate theatre companies. And while many of these produce great theatre there are a dozen or so that consistently produce exceptional world class theatre.

In theater anywhere other than the hierarchy of smash hit Broadway productions, this idea of working with and creating a community is much, much easier said than done. While they discussed. any ways this is done in the article, from independent theater leagues to small theater awards to community programs, it is still a huge issue in part because theater, in many people's minds, is Broadway. Good theater to most people is the theater they hear about online - the Hamiltons, the Dear Evan Hansens, the Pippins, and the Phantoms. Smaller theaters need to use this community around them, and the community connected integrally not just to the theater but to the people running it and acting in it, in order to advertise. Theater can make a community stronger and make the community more aware of social issues, more creative, and just closer as people with shared experiences and thought-provoking productions. By harnessing the power of the crowd and of social media, I think these productions will be able to mobilize their communities and rebirth the small theater industry into something more common in people's minds.
