I always love looking at the architecture and the setup of a theatre just as much as I love looking at all the technical components that go into the production put on the stage. It is very interesting being able to see and compare the more modern theatres to the older ones. These photos clearly show the different architectural and design styles from the eras they were built and furnished in: the seating design in the Savoy Theatre from the 1920s and the regal, early 20th century set up from the room pictured in the Theatre Royal for example. As I was scrolling through, what caught my eye were the photos of the thunder runs in the old theatres. It is so cool that old theatres came up with this cannonball system to create their own in house sound effects. That is a brilliant example of the ingenuity of theatre – taking what is on hand and using it to create the effect needed.
