Obama Had Officials Pay for Their Own Makeup Before TV Appearances; Trump Has the Taxpayers Doing It

www.theroot.com: If you’ve ever wondered to yourself, “Who is the person who makes Kellyanne Conway look less like a corpse?” Or, “Who makes Sarah Huckabee Sanders look less like a goofy troll-like succubus?” Well, I have the answer: It’s the White House’s full-time hair and makeup artist, Katie Price.

I love learning the truth about people I don’t like, especially people like Donald Trump. However, it really does suck to hear unfortunate things about him because this man is representing our country, and claims he has a nuclear button sitting on his desk, claims he never sexually assaulted anyone, and now he’s spending money he didn’t earn (not that he earned any of his money in the first place) on a makeup woman. And by makeup woman, that is her entire job in the white house. Honestly, her job sounds like a pretty good gig, if she was working for a better president, but if taxpayer money is going towards her, how come I didn’t have a say in that. Typically people vote on where our money gets spent, don’t they? I’m just waiting for the day we get a new president, I think we all really and truly are.

Okay the content of this article is interesting. It is one more thing that is showing the differences in the Obama and the Trump administrations. I don’t need to get into my political beliefs in this comment, but the one thing that I will get into is the way this article is written. It is filled with low blows targeting the appearance of the members of the Trump administration. I don’t see the need for there to be an article that just bashes on Kellyanne Conway’s face and supping to the use of same style of derogatory rhetoric that we see the members of the Trump administration using. This article doesn’t talk about Price in a good way either, saying that she put her “Pancake makeup” on these politicians to make them look slightly better than their corpse, dead-skineed, goblinlike complexions. I understand and agree with the point of this article that taxpayer money could go to better use than a full time make artist, but I wish we were also taking about how a woman is working in the Trump administration and how she is using her skill, that is usually in a more creative atmosphere, to work for the government showing that creative occupations have applications further outside the walls of a theater or soundstage.

So this is definitely not something that I believe is detrimental to the presidency, as they stated in the article, it's not unprecedented. There are plenty of other things that people should be outraged about. And frankly, I'm more than happy to pay my taxpayer $0.005 /year, or whatever it is, that pays for that poor woman to have to do her job. I thought this article was insightful and entertaining rather than upsetting. It was interesting to learn about the duties of staff in the white house and how the staff member who "just heats up KFC and teaches the Cha Cha Slide" can make a lot from being useful. That being said, I believe working for the Trump administration must have a significant emotional toll on a person. Although it is not the most news breaking story, I thought the author's voice really made it a fun read and allows political commentary in a humor and amusing way- which we could all use when it comes to politics these days.
