It's very exciting that not only has the Pittsburgh Public Theatre chosen a new artistic director to replace Ted Pappas and even more exciting that the new artistic director is a woman. The current structure of the Pittsburgh Public is a bit different as Ted Pappas was acting as a sort of hybrid of Artistic Director and Managing Director for the last 15 years. This change makes sense as they split the job back into two positions and bring on the new team members. Mayra Sea Kaminski is coming from Seattle Repertory Theatre and has only ever been the associate artistic director which means that this will be a bit of a step up for the team as a whole. Interestingly enough Seattle Repertory Theatre’s season is weirdly similar to the current season at Pittsburgh Public which hopefully will aid itself to Mayra being a good fit and a relatively easy transition.
