You on the Moors Now

Pittsburgh in the Round: It is an interesting phenomenon when the storytelling trends currently dominating the television and film landscapes creep up in the theatre world. Every new project announced nowadays, whether it’s for the big or small screen, seems to be either a reboot of a previously successful property or some sort of crossover event that brings together fan favorite characters for an epic adventure. This year alone, we’ve seen the first installment in the third incarnation of the Spider-Man film franchise and, later this week, the Justice League will assemble for the first time in a live action movie.

You on the Moors Now sounds like an incredible show. One thing that I agree with that the author of this article talks about is the fact that the production of new content is somewhat rare in the modern day and age. However, this production sounds like a new design of old content vs the recycling of old content. I’ve read each of the books that this play is based off of and this sounds like a really creative perspective to take on three books that I don’t necessarily perceive as “feminist.” Not only does the story of this production sound innovative, the scenery and costume design look brilliant in the images provided in the article. I actually really want to watch this show after reading this article. What I didn’t really understand in this article was how it talked about television. I think that a description of a story can be perceived to fit any medium, however theatre is about addressing stories that clearly fit into a 2hr beginning, middle, and end. At least, that is my opinion.
