Top 10 Construction Management Software Features

Construction World: Construction Management software has revolutionized the way construction professionals have increased productivity, efficiency and made the firms these professionals work for more competitive. The types of responsibilities previously administered by a project manager, design engineer, and project architect are now performed by some of the most highly complex programs. It is estimated that the majority of all contractors use some type of construction software for estimating costs, accounting, project management, scheduling and computer-aided design. This has resulted in a multitude of such software available to the construction sector, yet this explosion of software options has made it difficult to find one that is comprehensive enough to fulfill all the needs of construction professionals.

After reading this article I was left with more questions than answers. First I would love to see how something like this would integrate into our field. I can see it being used in larger shops and production lines where there is little personal investment and a lot of time to execute and properly pre plan things. I think it would quickly become more cumbersome than helpful in a fast work environment where things can change almost every 10 min. Second it would be interesting to see how workers would be able to integrate with the process. Both in how they would be able to ingest the information well trying to build shows, and how they would be able to feed information back into it. Most of our jobs in traditional theatre don’t require running multiple teams of in different sites and with unrelated goals. This means that most of our communication is in person or spoken which can help with clarity at times. I think the biggest struggle would be implementing it in a way where the workers feel like it is helping them and not just being forced upon them by some robot computer assigning tasks.
