I have personally experienced the transformation a different school systems brought upon me. Though I haven't received higher level education in the US colleges, the 4 years I spent here changed me completely as a person. I used to be close-minded. Very much so, I should say. I did not know what fun was, and all I knew was to study as hard as I can so I will get good grades to impress everyone around me. I did everything for other people's approval, lost all that time in which I was supposed to be exploring what my real interests are. That system worked some some people, but did not work for me. On the verge of breaking down from the high pressure and competition, I finally decided to leave my home country and came to the US. At first it was difficult, because everything was so different from what I was used to. There was no time for sports back home, but here athleticism is a huge part of everyone's life; doing art related things was usually not well-received by parents, but here I am allowed to do whatever I want and join the organizations I like. I have the opportunity to say yes more to my own desires and to prioritize my own needs before others'. And this is the reason why I got into theatre in the first place. I have never done theatre my whole life until I came to the US. It was a new world for me, all that glamorous and fascinating things I witnessed in the theatrical world made a different person. I can now proudly say that I am interested in theatre, instead of talking about law school or business school because I want to impress others. I have gained a clearer outlook on my own life. Though I still have a long way to go, I am excited for the journey ahead.
