Hot Metal Musicals 2017

Pittsburgh in the Round: The development of a new musical is a complex art. From the development of the original idea, into a workable script (book), music and lyrics, it is a consuming labor of passion, creativity, and love.

Those who attended Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh’s 2017 Hot Metal Musicals had the opportunity to preview songs from over a dozen works in development as well as four songs yet to find a book.

New musicals are written every years, but very few of them actually make it to the stage. This showcase allowed for people who don't have connections, who don't have their way into the industry to show off what they have. So many artists and writers struggle to get off the ground, because there are so few outlets for them and a lot of talent gets brushed to the wayside. Things like this are vital to progressing the industry, new people with new ideas and new perspectives can give the entertainment world to whole news levels but almost never are playwrights given places to show off. They need a company, they need a venue, money, people, lighting. Hot Metal gave a way for writers to tell what they want, and people responded very well. I am so happy that this is allowing people outside the industry to show off, and create music for theater that the world hasn't seen before.
