Blue Man Group is sold to Cirque du Soleil
Chicago Tribune: After more than 25 years as an innovative, percussive, quirky and cobalt enterprise, the performance company known as Blue Man Group is selling itself to Cirque du Soleil, the Montreal-based entertainment colossus that is diversifying from its roots in circus and street theater and rapidly expanding in China.

I was very surprised when I saw this article, but not for the reason most people may have been surprised. I was surprised that the Blue Man Group show hadn't already been bought by Cirque du Soleil. With the show's combination of art, performance and technology, it was destined to be a Cirque du Soleil show. Cirque made a very strategic decision by buying The Blue Man Group as The Blue Man Group Show has been running for 26 years and still sells out shows every week. They have also had a show running in Las Vegas for many of those years, with this purchase adding them to the laundry list of Cirque shows already playing in Vegas. This will allow The Blue Man Group Show to use Cirque du Soleil's massive marketing network while also allowing the show's creators to continue to develop newer, more extravagant pieces.
