The National Endowment for the Arts Serves Us and Reflects Who We Are

Stage Directions: The value of the NEA speaks for itself as they speak for the artists of America.

I am horrified at the discussion of getting rid of the National Endowment for the Arts. I know I go to art school so I am exactly who conservatives are talking about when they say snowflake or sensitive or any of that crap but the real reason that this program can't go is because it helps to create so many jobs and opportunities for artists who need that little bit of money to get themselves off the ground. Most of what the NEA does is give small grants to companies that are just getting going. For a small theater just 5 or 10 thousand dollars is enough to make a huge difference and many of these theaters that start small with just a few thousand dollars grow to be great non profits and contributes to their communities. The NEA is bigger than just grants for artists though, art alway has and always will represent free speech in this country and to get rid of the thing that helps to foster that is a push toward limiting what the citizens of this country can say and that is a far more dangerous than a lot of people realize.
