Pittsburgh Fringe Festival is back and bigger than ever

NEXTpittsburgh: A rowdy bingo bash hosted by the glamorous drag queen Betsy Carmichael. A sociopolitical showdown between Hillary Clinton and Eva Peron. A high-octane, one-man recreation of Apocalypse Now. And that’s only the beginning.

Experience culture on the fringe for three exciting days and nights on Pittsburgh’s historic North Side. Back and bigger than ever with new programming components, an expanded format and a star-studded roster of performers, the fourth annual Pittsburgh Fringe Festival is gearing up to bring cutting-edge theater to town.

The Pittsburgh Fringe Festival is one of those events that you always forget happens around this time of year but then someone mentions it and you go and it’s the best thing ever. Kind of like Carnival. Or, more accurately, like Playground. The article does not give you the full picture of the magnificence that is this weekend of weird art (its next weekend, by the way – for the two people who read this comment but not the article). I originally stumbled upon this event last February when I met (a.k.a. dated) one of the directors and she gave me the full low-down. Anyways, the Fringe Festival is a really fun way to spend a weekend. There is so much phenomenal, or at least unique, art and it is so easy to experience. It’s $40 for a day pass on Saturday or Sunday (I believe they also have student discounts). So grab your roommate, or half of 33 (if you give up a once-in-a-lifetime experience for homework you can do later you will hate yourself), or conveniently meet people working the festival and head out next weekend to see some weird yet great shows.
