Review: Cast Like Magic

Prop Agenda: If you follow the world of cosplay props, you have probably run across the work of Folkenstal Armory. This Swiss cosplayer is known for her fantasy daggers and armor from games like Elder Scrolls and Skyrim.

She recently released an e-book, Cast like Magic: A Beginner’s Guide to Mold Making and Resin Casting. Only the original German edition is available in print.

I am a huge fan of cosplay, and my one of my biggest dream is to become on of those really cool cosplayers who make all or most of their costumes and props. I think one of the big reasons why I really like costume design and costume construction is because of cosplay. I love characters from stories, tv/movies, animes, mangas, comics, etc. and what I love most is when they are brought to life. (I love it more when they are put into a professional musical, but I digress). On my previous computer, before it unexpectedly died on me, I kept a lot of different tutorials of interesting cosplay related projects, hoping one day I would make them. (Though I never did, because I didn’t/don’t have a job nor the money to spend on it). So seeing a book like this, and cosplay being mentioned, really excited to me and thus I wanted to comment on it. One thing I found a problem with most tutorials is that I never really understood how they do it, word-tutorials were to vague and the ones with pictures didn’t always provide all the necessary steps, so to read that this book uses pictures and colors in a easy way and manner where even I can understand it very encouraging. I’m really considering buying this book.
