I think an award meant to fund women's endeavors in theater is great. I had no idea this award existed, but I'm glad that it does! It's really important to help fund women's work in theater as there is a huge chance their play they wrote or the show they want to direct won't be picked up, so giving this prize is very helpful for women trying to make a difference in others women's lives. I find it interesting that Kristin Chenoweth is on there, she and Sarah Ruhl were the only names I recognized on the past recipients list, and that was mostly because of 4.48 Psychosis earlier this year. I assumed when first reading this was specific to female playwrights and directors, but actresses also play a huge part in the direct representation of women. While the playwrights write the part, the actresses ARE the part. I wonder how many of those women are designers?
