Hamilton just won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and yes we wrote this headline in advance

www.timeout.com: Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton has won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, it was just announced live at 3:10pm. We are able to get this news to you right away because we prewrote everything here except the exact time of the announcement.

This is definitely my favorite Hamilton Pulitzer Prize article that I have read so far. Most every other article has tried to say that there was at least a little bit of uncertainty about whether or not Hamilton would win the prize, but this article already says in the title that they knew Hamilton would win. They even mention that they had written the article in advance, and the only that was different about the article after Hamilton won was the time of the announcement. While I am sure that many other articles were pre-written, I think it is really funny that they acknowledge and embrace the fact that everyone knew it was going to win. However, this article makes me more consider what might have happened if Hamilton had not won. There would have been a huge upset, obviously, and countless online journals would have to write new articles, but it also would have been very interesting to see how aggressively the theatre community would have reacted.

I opened this article fully expecting to it to be incredibly smug and full of writing about how clever they were for knowing Hamilton was going to win the Pulitzer. Instead I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was actually the opposite aside from the title and opening paragraph they never mention when they wrote the article. Instead the whole thing is about the effect Hamilton has been having on the theater world. I’m actually really curious to see what happens when Tony nominations get announced. Everyone is assuming that Hamilton is going to win a lot of the categories but that assumption is based on another one, that Hamilton is going to get nominated for all the categories. Now personally I think these people are right. But at the same time this has been the year of calling out awards ceremonies for their outdated views so part of me wouldn’t be surprised is Hamilton got snubbed by the Tonys and didn’t get as many nominations or wins as people expect due to it not be nice traditional musical theater.
