What a lovely article, I always enjoy a good cod piece. Its evolution did come from a practical need to cover a complex curve that the clothing technology hadn’t quite solved, but it too fully embraced the “If you can’t hide it, feature it’ Motto. It is no secrete that it was used to draw attention to the general genital area and it dose its job. Many were highly decorated and in some cases, mostly for royalty and members of the court, were exaggerated and full of jewels. I would love to see someone pull an orange from their cod piece, next time anyone dose a 16th century show, they should figure out how that can be worked into it, its a brilliant idea. For that matter, it should comically be used as a pocket, after all it is just decoration. I wish we could start a new fashion trend, the cod piece pocket, but I know it would go no where good quickly.
