The whole time I’m reading this article I’m smiling, I keep thinking, “I can’t believe he graduated my school!” I mean look at him, he’s everything I imagined I wanted to be in my field. Not just successful, married and working, but happy. It was a big decision for me to go to a theater school, I was on track to be a vet. I thought that working with animals was all I ever wanted and when theater became a bigger part of my life I tried to push it away. I didn’t want to have to do the whole starving artist thing and struggle through life, but I soon recognized that I wasn’t really enjoying my working the vet offices. I don’t really know when I made the decision to pursue a career in theater; I just remember telling people that when they asked what I was doing for college, and soon enough there wasn’t any other plan. Theater was it, and I was happy with that.

There is such a visceral tug that I have when reading about former CMU Drama students, who recently graduated, and are currently performing on Broadway, T.V., etc. I almost have a sort of pride that encapsulates me, driving my attention to the person at hand. It's crazy - in just one year, I've become so connected to my school, and subsequently, developed a sense of responsibility for representing my school. Reading about Corey reminds me how all the work that I'm doing here at Carnegie is leading up to something. Also, Corey's sense of humor in answering some of the questions touches on the point that it's so vitally important to always laugh, and allow yourself to smile, even when working on something you might have dreamed of since age ten. Finally, Corey's recent appearance in this Broadway show reveals how important it is to constantly stay hungry and ready to work. Since "Newsies," I hadn't seen much news about him, but that is the very nature of the business. It's clear that the one's who really have success, are the perseverant performers. The craftsmen, who cease to ever stop developing themselves and their craft, whether or not there is consistent popular recognition.

Everyday when i wake up I thank God that he has given me the chance to go to school where true artists are made. Its so mind blowing that in four short years, that could be. Graduating, then possibly going straight into a broadway show. WOAH. its also so cool that this school gives us so many resources and connections into the business so even once I graduate, ill still have a net of CMU Alum that I will be able to connect with once I am out there on my own.
