I love accounts on social media that are directed towards actors. To me, I see it as a great way to gain worldly knowledge and to gain little nuggets of information to store in the back of your head. The great thing about following these accounts is that I will already be checking my Instagram for whatever reason, and it will just pop up. I won't have to search for it, or click anything. I get to see a really interesting picture that pertains to my industry, with a caption that is most likely 200 characters or less, so therefor it is a very quick and easy way to stay informed, knowledgable and interested in our industry. I have also applied this method on twitter and Facebook to get updates from my favorite actors and sometimes learn pieces of trivia that are very applicable to any conversation with someone in the industry. Just recently I have followed an account called "Actor Trivia" on twitter, and every day without fail, I will learn 4 or 5 stories about an improved line in a scene, a costume malfunction that was changed in a famous film, an actor that wasn't originally cast, etc. I love that I can utilize social media to broaden my knowledge in this industry.

I think that while we have started to use many of the social media platforms to their full potential as professional tools, Instagram is one of the few that rarely gets spoken about. I think that the platform allows for information sharing in a really unique way that appeals to artist and those in artistic industries. I also think that its use as a way to provide tips and inspiration to actors and stagehands alike is really innovative and effective. A lot of the specific Instagrams they pointed to in this article reminded me of the types of Tumblr blogs I followed when I first started getting into theater and more specifically stage management. There were a lot of people sharing tips for organizing and interacting within the theater and as there wasn’t a class for managers at my school, I learned a lot through those bloggers. Even now a lot of those sort of sites have great ideas about how to improve your paperwork and the like.

I think that the creation of Instagram accounts that are geared towards people's specific hobbies and interests in a genius idea. To me, accounts such as the ones that are mentioned in the article act as ways for actors to find humor within their field as well as a way of connecting to other's who share their passions. In an often competitive and strenuous industry, it is nice to be able to find some relief and humor on Instagram that pokes fun at the serious nature of it all. However, all accounts are not geared towards humor, and are geared towards encouragement and tips for auditioning, etc. These are just as useful and inspiring. I know that if I am having a -pardon my french- shitty day, and I am doubting the entire art of acting, if a quote from an actor/ director, etc. whom I look up to appears on my feed, I am often times inspired and reminded of the fact that I am not alone in this way of life.
