I think that I have a love hate relationship with the Tony Awards. I love them because they bring to light all of the new things that the commercial theater world has to a national audience. I hate them because they have and are becoming very politically driven. I know that politics rule the world, but some of the things/decisions that have been made are flat out stupid. Sound designers are people too! Their work is very valuable to any given production, and by taking away their recognition lessens the value of their already under representative work. Also not showing an “in memoriam” last year in effort to broadcast a preview of coming attractions is just flat out rude. Like straight out disrespectful to these incredible people that played such a big role in our industry while they were alive. The Tony Awards just need to get their crap together.
