I think that the August Wilson Monologue competition particularly is one of the better if not the best monologue competition that the city of Pittsburgh has to offer to student performers. This is because it really allows the students to using the information that they have learned in their social studies courses and apply it to a dramatic character that they are portraying a monologue from for the competition. I am also a fan of this because this competition as opposed to others because of it’s connection to certain demographics of students. There are many black students in the Hill District that could (and probably do) relate in some capacity to what the characters are discussing in their text. I think this is a great opportunity for students, and am very pleased to constantly be hearing about it’s success! Congratulations to everyone who participated or was in some way shape and form involved this year in the competition.
