I am completely baffled by the amount of times accidents happen when they can so easily be avoided. We have so many articles and hear so much news about the safety of crewmembers and actors alike. Whether it be safety in the shop, working with new equipment, or working in high places without harnesses, we all have the same thing to say about each- safety precautions should be in place at all times. When we’re actually in the situations where safety should be applied- we sometimes shrug it off. I feel as if tragic events like this are often eye-openers for those in the business and makes people become more cautious and focused on the safety aspects as they go through their work. In this specific situation I feel as if there should have been some sort of railing at the edge of the stage or he should have been put into a harness.

I did a report in a criminal law class about scaffolding laws and other construction related accidents in the work place. Although this case was not a result of anything criminal it further shows how so many things could go wrong and how you never know when something bad could happen. It seems as though this rigger was a very experienced worker who knew how to keep himself safe and it is sad to hear about freak accidents like this. I am surprised however that they are not really doing any criminal investigation. I know they said there wasn't anything illegal but i feel like they should have a legal investigation just to make sure. and maybe they did, I don't know, but it seemed like they didn't.
